How to Thread a Sewing Machine Using the Manual’s Thread Path

Thread the upper path

  1. Raise the needle to the manual’s threading position, commonly its highest point, using the approved handwheel or needle control.
  2. Raise the presser foot when directed so tension discs can accept thread.
  3. Place the spool in the illustrated orientation and install the correct cap without crushing the spool.
  4. Lead thread through the first guide and down or around each numbered channel.
  5. Seat it in the tension path without flossing or forcing.

This method does not cover sergers, coverstitch machines, embroidery color paths, twin needles, specialty spool stands, or industrial threaders. Do not disassemble tension units or pull a severe jam through the mechanism. Stop for repeated thread breakage, needle contact, grinding, electrical odor, heat, smoke, or a recalled component. Use model support or a qualified technician when correct rethreading and a compatible fresh needle do not resolve the symptom.
